Finding A Life Coach

Posted: Mar 10, 2010 | Comments: text0 | Views: 0 | textBookmark and Share

Many people feel unsure or confused about which direction they should take when they are facing a troublesome situation. Life coaches are people who offer advice and help in these situations. The situations could be regarding personal or professional changes, career counsel, coaching regarding weight loss etc. The coaching could be done by talking with the coach in person or on a telephone. Finding good life coaches can be very easy, following steps can be used to look for a good coach:

  • Friends and other relatives could be contacted for referrals regarding good coaches. Word of mouth is the best way to gain information regarding the proficiency of a life coach.
  • Many professional coaches also give seminars in college or public events. Talking to them or contacting them (via phone or email) for appointment can be a way to start the coaching program.
  • Internet can be used to check for different websites which offer lists of good coaches in the local region. The search tags include good life coaching, professional life coaching etc.
  • The search engine can also be used to review the bio data, experience level and purpose statements of various coaches. If a particular coach seems impressive, then calling or mailing them can help in setting up introductory meeting. Also, many coaches offer the first consultation or meeting for free or for discounted rate. Also, the website can be used to see that the coaches are professional or just scammers as there are coaches without any proper credentials.

Personal coaches are increasing in number and many think that they can help their clients with all problems. A better, much more effective and much less time consuming thing is to select a speciality. A coach might want to attend a CEO, but he/she shouldn't forget that that speciality could easily be a part of any CEO's life. The second step is to make a personal coaching business plan. Becoming a professional coach is incomplete without doing this step. This step builds a foundation underneath one's dream. Many coaches have said that it can be incredibly empowering to perform this step and failed practitioners have wished that they should have done this step.

The third step is to gain a qualification as a personal coach. Many countries or states don't have any criteria or qualifications regarding personal coaching. But, there are things which are needed to learn when the clients get stuck, blame themselves (or the coach), how to handle accounts, management of the business, schedules and clients. One can get a certificate from a professional and reputable college that teaches its students the ways to become personal coaches.

One can also ask their personal coach that whether he/she would give them some knowledge points or add them in their business for some time to gain knowledge regarding how to handle the clients, their problems and goals. This step also ensures that new clients would be impressed if a coach is already approved from a reputable college or from a famous practitioner.
